Free Covid Tests in Mail - Gov't Site OPEN NOW!
.......Here are the links ...and they do work !
https://www.covidtests.gov/
https://special.usps.com/testkits
The promised Gov't site has apparently opened a day early
I just filled out the required info and received immediate confirmation by USPS (the post office), with an Order Number, saying that package containing 4 free-at-home tests will "start shipping in late Jan."
Go for it

Maybe it varies by state???? ..... tho seems unlikely.
I believe the web site had said 4 tests per residence
My confirmation e-mail says:
"ORDER SUMMARY
FREE At-Home Covid-19 Tests
Order of 4 tests"
ps: as with all things Covid related: confusion will reign

Hello Robin *********,
Thank you for placing your order on USPS.com®.
Once your package ships, you'll receive a tracking number and updates on the expected delivery date.
Note:
At-home COVID-19 tests will ship free starting in late January. USPS will only send one set of 4 free tests to valid residential addresses. We are unable to process duplicate orders for the same address.

I would like to suggest that everyone who does not actually need a test at the moment, or can afford to pay, or has insurance to claim on, not jump in and order right now/ Or at least donate your test kits to a neighbor who has no internet.

yes my family in the UK were amazed that we have to pay for them over here and offered to send me some 7 packs because they were free and freely available when they were back ordered here I went on to Amazon.de, they had plenty in stock for maybe $3 a test, but are restricted from sending them to the US.
I also heard about much smarter strategies being employed… for young kids, they do surveillance testing where they all suck a lollipop 🍭… put them all in a bag together and then 1 combined sample is tested. If they detect CV19 they can do individual testing to see who has it…

Probably most effective is your suggestion to donate the tests. If a person simply doesn’t order tests, there’s no guarantee that they’ll go to a more needful recipient.

so a single person gets 4
a family of 8 gets 4
and someone with 2 houses gets 8
Not sure that has been thought through very well…

Precisely. And I hear that people resident in apartments are trying to order and being prevented from doing so because someone in their building has beaten them to it!

My wife ordered them but as a family of 5 I'm not sure how much use it would be considering you probably want to do 2 tests to confirm the first result. I know from January 15th your insurance is supposed to cover up to 8 at home tests per person per month. I just questioned my insurance about how that works and it seems they make you pay for them then re-imburse you so long as the test is an approved test, not used for work and you send them the receipt, barcode and fill out a form so they're probably hoping people will think that's too much hassle to save $8.
