They had a piece about this on the BBC Breakfast show this morning.

The travel expert on there, did say that the ruling had been rescinded, but was suggesting that travellers heading to Florida in the near future (it's half term here next week) should still try to get an IDP before they travel.

His rationale was that it might take some time for the about turn to filter through into car rental companies (and their policies) and so holiday makers might have trouble picking up a rental.

He said he had heard accounts of people being refused rentals while the ruling was in place (but they did not speak to anyone on the show that had experienced difficulty).

Any bets this was Rick Scott's idea?

The requirement that international visitors have the added permit in addition to a driver's license from their home country was part of a 105-page piece of legislation, introduced last year by state Rep. Ben Albritton, R-Wauchula, that dealt with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Albritton said the disruption caused by the requirement was "clearly an unintended consequence," and he was working to address the issue during the Florida Legislature's upcoming session
