I received a letter from Barclays saying that i am a tax resident of Hungry and the US and they need the Hungry information. I am certainly not a resident of Hungry. What to do.? I am feeling scared and confused.

Write back to them with the facts and keep a copy of what you sent. There is no reason to feel scared and confused, unless you are hiding something.

Back in 2011 while we were still living in the USA we had a long holiday in England, Ireland and Spain. At the end of the year our bank in England, HSBC, wrote to us saying it looked like we were tax resident in the UK. They did actually provide a UK tax form to complete and fill out with dates of travel etc so we could show that we had not spent enough time in the UK to become tax resident. If HMRC had wanted more info I had the details of our travel, but they never did get back to me. Just a reminder that banks are required by law to monitor transactional activity and report back to HMRC.
