Flying from Australia to the USA

I am planning on travelling to the states in the next two months. How safe do you think this all is? I am....
*flying from Australia to Japan (overnight stay)
*flying from Japan to Chicago
I am terrified of flying, but still really want to go. Everyone here is telling me to wait a while longer, but I can't..I need to go in the next eight weeks.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated..thanks

Within two weeks, flying into the US will be safer than it has ever been in the
