Although I have to say you must all have a bit to much time on your hands if you have nothing better to do.

I am sure you all had to start somewhere in your quest to move to the US and would have thought having been through all the work and heartache you would have been a bit more helpful.

Who knows whether we will get out to the US but I can tell you one thing for sure I am not going to let people on a chat forum put me off!

Good luck to all of you and I do truly mean that. One piece of advice try being nice you might find it helps make you a better person you might even like it!
You can't imagine how many times BE members have read about Brits who want to move to Florida of all the fifty states in the US. It's like an American asking for travel advice about visiting London without having considered visiting other parts of the country. Wouldn't that make you laugh?

I can see what you're saying but the only reason we are considering moving to Florida is because thats where sis is, and the reason for the move is to be with her.
thanks for the link by the way.

I wouldn't get too wound up about it if I were you. The response to your initial post is not uncommon on this particular forum. Do bear in mind that unlike Canada and Australia, the majority of British people in the USA are there because they put a ring on a USC's third finger, which is hardly the sort of achievement that might allow the dismissive attitude so often run out in these parts.

It is hard to get into the US without the marriage visa, lots of money, or highly specialist employment skills. You could try the E-2, but this is quite a poor option and in no way guarantees you permanent residence in the country. Family sponsorship may also be an option meanwhile. As for Canada, the wait to get into that country from the UK is now about 4 years, so it would be quicker for you to train as a nurse, get some experience in A&E and then get into North America that way. Seriously.

Good luck in your venture, but it will be hard to pull off, I assure you.

Thanks tableland your response made me smile! Happily married so won't be trying to wangle my way in by getting US citizen to put a ring on my third finger, anyway don't think I would go for that one would sooner get there of my own bat. Although in saying that sis got out there by marrying US citizen. It def seems the easiest way to get out. We will keep trying brother in law is looking into it at the US end for us maybe he will have a bit more joy!

The other main route (employment) is the one my wife and I took. She is a nurse, one of about 3 occupations that will get you a green card. It took us 2.5 years and a LOT of grief to get out here.

Bit early in the morning for all that, isn't it?

If the Dot Cotton avatar is annoying you, I'll remove it. Since our little discussion about your carrying a gun everywhere, you gone a bit crazy regarding ole Tolos, and seem to think I am mocking or stalking you. Take it easy, dude.
