before they came over here we all had dinner together in nashville and they gave me the
'what do brits think of dubya - they think hes great right?'
they were shocked when I told him that pretty much everyone outside the USA thinks hes a fool
I think they dismissed me as a communist or something at that time.
they've now been in the UK for 9 months and it seems that there attitudes towards politics have not changed at all, with the most worrying thing being that they now think EVERYONE around them is a crackpot like me
whats ironic, even in the 'red' states there has begun a bit of a backlash with dubya losing support, but they have not been around in the US to pick this up. not that they probably would...
one interesting comment was that apparently people's teeth over here are much better than in the USA....

Few issues with what they had to say
1. They can't understand why UK colleagues slam GWB(j)
2. They think the UK is anti-american
3. They think Bill C was the biggest piece of crap.
4. Didn't know the IRA were terrorists
5. Think the crap US economy is purely Bill C's fauly
6. Think GWB will learn from tony B to be a great orator
7. CNN = clinton news network and fox news is the only one to watch
these people are financially successful, both with degrees
my only comment is to say that to #6 you can't make a silk purse......
I'm still in shock and the wine has not lessened it at all

Now you know why this Yank feels much more comfortable hanging out with Brits.
Look -- it's a sales job. Rich, well-connected people have a lot of money to spend convincing people that the Republicans are great and the Democrats are a bunch of lying perverts. If you want or *need* to get on well with them, at church, in business connections, in a small town.... you suck it up and you start to believe the lies you're telling yourself, cos after all, such successful wealthy people *must* know how to do things right. You *assimilate* -- isn't that the American way?
