The saddest thing is that the state is basically one large nursing home.
There are hundreds of Floridians, including a few I know, who have lived here all their lives, worked hard for their homes and just can't afford the taxes on their homes anymore and who have moved down to South and Central America because they just can't live here anymore.
And it isn't going to get easier, unless they lower the property taxes all over the state.

Raising homestead exemption from $25k to $50k is not going to help much, to be honest.
When your taxes start getting close to $1,000 a month then it is second mortgage. It's ridiculous. My mortgage must be made up of around 80% on taxes, insurance and interest
Maybe time to downsize in terms of the house, bigger is not always better

Thing is, what are you going to find for that price? Virtually nothing.
When I arrived a few years ago, you could get fixer uppers for around 10k. The same go for around 90 or 100k today!

they get no exception and there taxes rise tremendously every year ..
My trailer in the wood would have been $3500 but with the exception and SOH is $1900 ... up just $90 from last year ..
South Dakota is cheaper I believe ..
