You've lost me... What will be quite good for hubby when you move back to England?

Do you mean ***** - because you'll be happier and more relaxed???

Well he's training to be a fireman right now, doing loads of college courses, he's already done 4 & he's doing another 3 right now. I'm sure he'll still want to be a fireman when we move back to England, so I was thinking that he might be quite sort after with all his training (EMT etc) & experience.

Isn't there an international exchange program for brother (and sister) firefighters? Like what teachers have.

Consider a droplet of water. Look at how tiny it is. How fragile. Then look at its big brothers and sisters, following right behind. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

Technically, water is the first member of the so called alcohol series where n=0

CnH(2n+1)OH

When n = 0, CnH(2n+1)OH is HOH, i.e. H2O ... water ... or wader.

Just remembered where that line comes from (well, its derivative) ... from the Fifth Element (no, not Boron) in the scene where the evil Zorg (played by Gary Oldman) yaps on about some little things that clean up a mess he purposefully creates in front of bring me the Priest, Father Vito Cornelius (played by Ian Holm).

All the firefighters around here are old guys with huge guts that couldn't run 10 yards without having a heart attack, they wear baseball caps and own a pick up truck that they can drive with one hand hanging out the window cos they think it makes them look cool (this seems to be the life long ambition of most local guys)............ And finally they don't shower very often. These guys usualy arrive just in time to save the basement.

ROFLMFAO!!!!!

I have to laugh because they put those huge great big blue lights on their pick up trucks and all the stickers and metal plates saying "F**kwitville Volunteer firefighter" etc and then they flop out of their trucks at the local Stewarts, waddle their 300Ibs carcass across the parking lot to go buy a couple of tons of "Adirondack bear Paw" Ice cream (which is f**king excellent BTW try it) and a case of beer to go drink at the fire hall.

I would bet money that if the local cops breathalysed the firefighters at the scene of a evening/night time fire, more than half would be shitfaced. Like you say, it seems to be the pinnacle of their ambitions to be a volunteer firefighter...well I suppose its too late for them to go to 'Nam and Iraq is a bit too risky...heros.

Sadly, that isn't surprising. To be a cop you have to be a citizen, I suspect they also apply that logic to firefighters. The only reason behind it is red tape - but I think the governments reasoning is that if you are not a citizen, you are potentially a security risk. Sad but true, completely nonsensical, but what can you do?

By chance last night I met a guy from the volunteer station just across the county line - he reckons theres no citizenship in their county, and they're that desperate, they've even dropped the age limit! Still have to pass a fitness test, but I guess thats reasonable.

I mentioned this thread, and he questioned whether any US training would be taken into account by a UK fire brigade - apparently the 2 have totally different philosophies on fighting fires - if there are no people involved, UK prefer to stay outside and spray in, and US prefer to get inside the building as quick as possible. Or was it the other way around? Don't know if thats true or not, but someone on here may...?
