Default Finally on the move

I got my paperwork through for immigration yesterday and am flying across to Kansas on Monday. Had a lightbulb thought moment about medical insurance. Do I need that in place for my arrival and if I'm only going for two weeks this visit will I still need to keep it active while I'm back in UK selling up? Any company recommendations gratefully received. I'm on my own and 60 if that makes a difference. Thanknyou

There is no legal requirement that you need medical insurance to immigrate to the US. Be sure to have travel medical insurance since you are not going to be in the US but for two weeks before leaving again for an indefinite period.

Congratulations on getting the immigration paperwork. As Rete said, get the travel/medical insurance for this visit. You could ask your son what medical insurance company he or his employer use. Insurance brokers may be another avenue to try for companies with good rates and coverage.

Have you looked into health insurance at all? At 60 it could be quite expensive so hope you have budgeted for this. Of course, you may be intending to work and obtain a company group scheme (although from your earlier posts it looks as though you are an early retiree)

Thank you for your replies. I have organized travel insurance now. I have had a couple of quotes for medical cover and yes it is expensive but have budgeted for it SanDiegogirl;12520980 . I don't intend working full time but may take part time work just to top up my income/savings for a couple years. I am going to be better placed for sorting out quotes when I'm in Kansas next week so I'm sorted for final move. That's the plan anyway! 😊

OP's first post on BE back in 2015 mentions health insurance. Over 60 is highest rated category, but presumably would be entitled to ACA subsidies if their income is below 400% of the federal poverty level.
