Federal Holiday January 21

Federal Holiday January 21
Just to remind those forum members who may not know or may not be in the US... Federal government offices, including immigration offices, as well as most if not all overseas offices related to the US government, will close Monday, January 21 in observance of the birthday of civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr.
Enjoy the day.
Enjoy the day.

Amusing that most other places ignore this one though :/
The missus only has it off because she worked the whole weekend, sick, because there wasn't any one else to that wasn't salaried at least :/

The company I work for hasn't given us MLK Day off as a paid holiday in the past.
But this year, they came up with a new holiday pay calendar. The divisions of the company that work with government agencies get MLK Day off as a paid holiday. The divisions that don't work directly with government agencies, don't. We have both in our office, so 3 people in our office get the day off while the other 30-odd of us have to work.

I also work for a bank. My client company is off because the fed is closed, but some staff are working on catchup/admin and getting double. Not me though. I'll be at the beach if you need me

Yeah not off today either. No extra pay, business as usual. Have to support offices worldwide. Boss is in Canada. Could really use the day off today too, so tired.

My two kids go to daycare - different ones because of the price and ages (the cheaper one doesn't take under 2 years old). Inevitably one is open and the other one is closed.

Our daycare was open today and since we pay enough for it, our daughter is there, while my wife and older son are off work and school respectively.
He'll be having a simply wonderful time helping his ma clean the basement today

That's wonderfully convenient, isn't it?

Ours are quite good about closures, they tend to stay open on the 'bank holidays' that schools may get off but not everyone else does (today, President's Day, Columbus Day etc). They were closed the day after Thankgiving, which surprisingly my bank-employed wife didn't have off, but that day we just made our son watch her instead. For free
