I heard that when people emigrate to Australia they get excess baggage allowance? Is this true and does anyone know if this applies going to the UK?
On the other hand, how do people cope without their stuff? Silly question but when we came here we travelled for 3 months so that our stuff would get to Oz when we did (yeah right!!). Not sure how to manage with everything including warm clothes, coats, interview clothes, dogs stuff etc etc etc!
Any advice?

You could ship a box of things you need before you go to a relative in UK so it's ready for when you arrive....
We plan to ship everything as early as we can and rough it for a couple of weeks before we leave so we don't have to wait too long in the UK for our things....
Not sure on baggage allowance but I think since sept 11 a lot of things have changed... You would need to contact the airline you fly with as each airline is different......
Hope that helped...

when i was looking at air ticket prices today from melb to uk via singapore air there baggage allowance was 20kg's
malaysia air was 30kg's
so i guess check with the airline you wish to fly with
and you can normally pay extra and they will let you take a bit more.

You are best off using Jetta if you're going to have a lot of excess baggage. I'm going to use it myself in about a week (thanks to recommendations on here), I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks everyone-will check with the airline and look at sending some stuff seperately-just can't bear the thought of sending clothes seperately and they all get lost!!-aaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhh!!!
