Hi there, hubby and I have aways discussed moving abroad, we have links to Chicago and Buffalo.
We are totally empty of knowledge eg how easy it is, and mainly whether the quality / cost of living is better than the UK.
I will shortly qualify as a social worker in England and my hubby works for the pension service.
Wondering what the social services system is like in the us also.
Any answers greatly appreciated - got to start somewhere!
Thanks in advance

If you don't qualify under one of the categories described, all other questions are moot.

I dont know for definate but think you may have to do a social work conversion - my mum was looking into it, and a collegue of hers moved to the US (or maybe canada......i dont remember) and had to work as a hotel receptionist for a year while she did her conversion.

Buffalo:
Town in industrial recession. Fairly grotty downtown. Their football team sucks. Be prepared for a lot of snow.
On the Canadian border. Niagara falls. About a hour from me. Buffalo chicken wings. A really nice 4/2 house will probably cost around $250k.
Chicago:
Someone is in a much better position to talk about this than me. I've been there a few times and love the place, especially in the western suburbs like Oak Park. Loads of cool concerts there, and the soccer stadium (Toyota park) has rugby games!!

4? Well it's March and apart from that lovely 95 degree marathon day (which I ran) at the start of October it's been crappy for at least 5 months, going on 6. Oh and yet another heavy snowstorm warning for tomorrow...
But it is lovely here apart from the weather!
