I was just wondering why you would assume members of a forum for British people would never have heard of Time Out or VAT.

and having spent two and a half weeks in Britain in July this year I don't agree with your blanket assertion that everything costs twice as much there.

Thanks for all the info,it seems some things are priced the same.We don't drink beer. As said even though Petrol is dear in UK,Americans drive their cars a lot more,so its pretty equal. No real good bus service here.We will be taking tours,in London, Paris and Edinburgh and then down to the Family in Brum.So no car needed.

Clothes do seem a lot more expensive that here in USA.
I went online and had good service, they sent them right out and were
delivered today.:)

So looking forward to being in England once again, been awhile..Worried about all the Muslims I read about, curious to see if it is overplayed.

Looking forward to some good fish n chips and a good curry.

Once again.Thank-you for your responses.

VivDee - what on earth are you on about re. Muslims in the GB? On the whole most Muslims/Hindus/other group are as friendly as heck in the UK. Very welcoming and friendly - unlike a lot of white anglo-saxons who get hammered and pick fights with anyone.

Think you must have been listening to Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin too much!

Enjoy your trip back.

Yes - better watch out. If they think you're an infidel they'll gob in your curry...

Well I think when you have to pay your employees a liveable wage and not have them hanging 2 inches above the foodstamps threshold then shops do have to charge a little more no?

Have you been reading the Daily Mail or the Daily Express?

When were you last in the UK? Decades ago?

I think that clothes in the UK are generally of better quality, cut and design than in the US (and has anyone been in the Gap recently? They have really cut back on their stock, no wonder as the stuff is so boring it is likely to induce one into a coma...).

Take a look in one of the larger Tesco's supermarkets if you can....their F&F (Florence and Fred) clothing range is usually v. good indeed and at an excellent price) as is the 'George' range at ASDA - different to the range in the US.

I've never had a problem with Muslims anywhere - ok you may see a lot in the Birmingham area and yes if you're not used to seeing women wearing an abaya or burqua it may seem a bit strange (although there were loads in Zurich, Switzerland when I was there for a few days in July). Not sure what you mean by 'overplayed'?

Both pretty much the same in my experience; no surprise really since the vast majority of the stock is manufactured in China (although apparently even that is getting too expensive now so they are moving the factories to Bangladesh)

No-one's brought up one of the greatest ever UK bargains which was the 15 pound ASDA suit!

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-sto...5875-20288143/

I was seriously tempted and only talked out of getting one at the last minute.
