Employment Based greencard woes
Hi All,
Some of us are currently undergoing some greencard application woes in the form of 'retrogression'. Basically anyone in the EB3 category (or who will be in the EB3 category) has essentially had their greencard application put on hold (a gross oversimplification but there you go). Some of you may know about the labor certification backlog and the subsequent backlog reduction centers. Well sorting that problem out created enormous pressure on the INS/USCIS to process actual greencards - the result being that they ran out of greencard numbers almost immediately and have now ceased accepting adjustent-of-status applications in this category completely and have put existing un-processed applications essentially on hold.
I am relatively fortunate in that my application got in before they stopped accepting applications, but it means that I am now in an extended cycle of re-applying for my EAD once a year etc. Others are not so fortunate and are faced with extended visa hassles an the inability to switch employers for an extended period of time (we're talking years here).
If you have a greencard application in the employment verification stage, or if, like me, you are in the adjustment-of-status stage, or if you know people that are in this position, or if you just plain care I would be very grateful if you would head on over to http://immigrationvoice.org/ and contribute money and/or time to their efforts to garner political support for fixing this situation.
I hope you don't have issues with my posting this on these forums (but I'm sure you'll let me know if you do
