Hi there,just in process of trying to apply for E-2 Visa for me, husband and two children, aged 2 & 10, have been in touch with solicitors specialising in this area, don't see too many probs, only husband has ABH conviction from 20 years ago. Does anyone have any advice or words of comfort.

Am I absolutley bonkers, fell in love with US 5 years ago whilst on holiday, finally have the guts (and cash) to do something about it but I know it's gonna be totally different living there, especially with running a business with 2 kids in tow!

Thinking of the New England area, anyone living close to there?.

Would appreciate any comments ie education compared to UK, but any comments would be grately appreciated.

And where abouts in NE, it's quite large....Maine, where i'm at, for another week anyway, schools, generally here are utterly shite with the exception of some in Portland and Bangor, and the private schools are excellent...but this is something that wildly varies from state to state and also within each county, so unless you have a particular area in mind, it'll be hard to say...

Though one thing has to be asked with people bringing kids, what are your plans when they turn 21 as they'll have to get there own visa in there own right at that stage, and the E visa, your business goes under, you have to leave straight away, and same if you retire, no direct route to greencard, but medical insurance would be to expensive for retirement for most anyway.

Hi Bob, thanks for replying, I was under the impression that there was a route to the Green Card after running a business in US (told by firm we are thinking of using).

We were looking at a business in Madison and was told by the owners that the education was second only to California (were they telling porkies).

This is why I am trying to talk to people already out there, because you don't know who and what to believe.

I'm not too far from Madison, NJ.

but anyway, your thinking of the EB-5 which is the $1M investment, of $500K if you invest in a dive....the E-2 doesn't lead to a greencard on it's own right...

There is no path from E-2 to a green card ..no matter what you are told ..

To sum up:

1. Madison New Jersey is certainly not New England, when you said new England I thought of boston, hartford etc. SChools in new england are typically good, schjools in new jersey are not

2. No route to green card after E2

Have you been to Madison NJ?

Are the schools in California generally considered to be good?

I was out in San Fran and got the opposite impression.

Where I am it varies a lot, even within the same school district. Depends on the cultural make up, just trying to be PC.....

Hi there, I have found Madison on the New England website, it's Madison, Connecticut, do you know what the schools are like there. We were looking at New England in general, Maine, New Hampshire, New Haven, Vermont etc.

I was just hoping somenone might be familiar with this area to point me in the right direction.
