There was something on TV a couple of years ago about the oldest flight attendant - I'm pretty sure it was Continental, so maybe the one your mum came across. From what I remember they basically said they couldn't force her to retire as long as she could perform her job satisfactorily. Part of proving that was that she had to pass a test annually(?) that involved wrestling a passenger of a certain size (150lbs?) out of one of the emergency exits, and as long as she could do that, she'd be kept on.

We used to do Sing-Tokyo, Tokyo - LA/SF, LA/SF - Houston quite regularly on UA or CO. Invariably the youngest planes, cutest attendants and best food were on the first leg. Moved slightly down the barrel for the second leg then scraped the bottom for the purely domestic leg...

Ah...but I said it in jest, and the young lady in question only lives 20 miles up the road from me so I guess if I was really mad I could find her quite easily;)


Yes, sometimes people do think you are "past" a lot of things when you're in your 50's but if the mind is still working and the body is willing then there's no holding you back:D

As for working on an airline at 55 or older, no, I think I'd leave that for someone younger. Anyway I've never wanted to work anywhere that you have to dress up, get made-up or wear high heeled shoes.

Me..I'm just a scrubs and crocs kinda girl (albeit an old one;))

I'm all for senior citizens doing the job ...

Should the plane crash they are more expendable and can be eaten first ... or if weight needs to be shed then out you go grandma ...

And there will be more fat on the average OAP. :thumbup:
