Sod the top sheet. Straight to the comforter. Can then throw the entire comforter in the washer/dryer to clean.

My husband does this, just a bottom sheet and the cotton duvet/doona/quilt cover next to your skin with both being changed once a week. Drives me mad, I'm a 'hot' sleeper and throw the covers off numerous times, but I like a top sheet to cover me. But since he does the bed making and washing, I won't complain
I now also dislike the feeling of a hotel bed with a tightly tucked top sheet. Feels positively claustrophobic.

In the summer when it's hot, & even the lightest duvet is too much, a cool cotton top sheet's just right. In the winter we use a flannelette top sheet under the (covered) duvet for another warm layer.

You can get English-Style duvets on Amazon. They seem to be listed as different levels of "fill power". We have one for guest use. We personally use an IKEA "quilt" style down duvet with a top sheet and then a comforter blanket on top of that. I much prefer this set up to a duvet cover.
They also sell duvets and covers in IKEA, as previous posters have mentioned.
With regards to fill power, according to this link:
I hope you find something suitable.

With regards to fill power, according to this link:
- Lightweight, summer use: 400 or below
- Great any time of year: 400 to 600
- In cold weather, or if you easily chill at night: 600 to 800
- When you really, really need extra warmth: 800 and up
I hope you find something suitable.

We got an American king size down duvet, 650 fill, from Costco for a guest bed, and it wasn't all that expensive. We got the cover from Amazon after getting another two which didn't work for us, colorwise. We put a top sheet under the duvet, because the cover material isn't as soft as a sheet.

Duvets!
I remember when they first became popular in the UK they were known as Continental Quilts.

Sounds like they don't do synthetic quilts here ? I am very allergic to down.
