Re: dual UK/USA citizen travelling on a british passport out and back into USA
hi all
ok, this is a tough one, but can anyone help me out?
i applied for my n-400 naturalization recently and received it quicker than planned for, took less than 2 months, even had the swearing in ceremony same day, hey, i'm not complaining!
BUT!! my wife booked a trip to costa rica a few weeks before the interview thinking that it would take months for me to becoem an american and get a new US passport.
so now i'm a US citizen, great, but i don't yet have a US passport, and nor do I have my green card ('cos i'm no longer a resident)
so, can i leave the US and return on my british passport and show immigration my naturalization certificate? (which would prolly really pee off immigration)
thanks, anyone, for your help.

We came up against the same deal, but were able to make it. Another recent poster in the marriage-based group also made it--he actually flew to San Fran to get his.. we drove 3 hours each way to make it, but it was worth it to not lose the trip!
I don't recommend taking the natz certificate with you, and I believe it's no longer sufficient proof as an entry document. (check cbp.gov for details)

I used a service and got mine in 4 days once. A. Briggs Passport or something like that. USPS tells you that because they don't like the hassle methinks..
It's Thursday, about 5. The last fedex /USPS overnight is probably at 7:00 if you have a major airport nearby. You could get it out today and have your passport by next week.

hey, thanks for your advice, just received my new US passport. i used the A.Briggs service that you recommended. took less than a week from posting via fedex to fedex handing it to me about 10 minutes ago. i owe you a big pint! thanks mate.

We applied for our daughter's renewal of an existing and non-expired passport 2 weeks ago on Monday, but very late in the day, so it probably didn't go out until exactly 2 weeks ago. We paid for it to be expedited and I signed for it just 5 minutes ago.

I used Briggs for Russian visas. They were excellent, got everything in no time.

You might be SOL though, they offer a same day service but I just found this on their website.
NOTE: The U.S. Passport Agency has been backlogged for over a month because of the new law requiring a passport for flights to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Because of this backlog, the Passport Agency in some cases has been taking longer than in the past to issue passports. Consequently, we may not be able to provide passport service as quickly as you request. We make every effort to meet our customer’s request for the timely issuance of their passports, however in a few cases applicants have not had their passports in time for their departure.
Current orders of A Briggs are being handled to the best of our abilities; however, we can only wait on the Passport Agency to issue passports, and reportedly they have been behind in issuances by as much as one million passports. This is a problem being experienced by everyone in our industry. The U.S. Passport Agency is doing all it can to solve the problem. If you have specific questions, contact [email protected] . If you are an A Briggs corporate or travel agency account, your service will not change. Please contact your account representative if you have questions.

We're talking about US PPs...not British ones...unless it's for Rob.

boring...The first letter is "P", designating a passport. means nothing much. thought it was some CIA coding they had put on me for future special missions, like priviliged or something.
