On our trip back to the UK last month, my wife and 16 month old son were both able to come through the UK citizen's line with me. The non UK citizen line was painfully long, and all we did was ask if it was OK, and nobody had a problem with it and 10 minutes later we were on our way out of Terminal 4 at Heathrow.

OH OH OH thanks for reminding me......
now you've just hit a bloody nerve............

Went back to the UK through Heathrow in March, same scenario. Hello Mr and Mrs Manc, step this way altogether............

Last week in Manchester, I presumed it was the same gig. So me and the Mrs waltzed, (ok well queued) at the EU line. Got to the POE officer and she says to the wifey, "You have to queue up over there"

I go through and knock on the supervisors window, and explain that at Heathrow, you can take foreign born spouses through the EU line.

Manchester immigration woman says she'll call the big cheese in Heathrow.

While this was going on. Another American lady gets to the other British Immigration officer cubcle in the EU line. Yet she is escorted to the front of the queue in the foreigners line..

well that was it.
my lid was well and truly *****ing flipped.

"How come that woman there is escorted to the front of the other line, whilst my wife has to queue up twice...........
3 proceedures I've seen now in the past 2 months, you all work for the same Home office...........yet it's taken me 30 minutes to get into my own country."

complete bag o' shite.

I must write to them and inform them of my disgust.

yet returning in Philly last week with an expired Green Card and NOA, I'm waved through like I just stepped off Air Force One.

We sent for a pension forecast a few years back and in the packet that came back was the info about rate changes and a form to fill in to start paying class 2 contributions. I can't remember all the criteria, but one was that you had to have lived in UK for a three year period at any time before you moved abroad. another was that to switch from Class 3 to Class 2 contributions you had to be in employment- can't remember the rest but you can get info, forms and phone numbers for helplines online
