I wouldnt call it a driving test. If you can turn the car on and drive for a bit without hitting anything you'll pass. I would guess about 70% of people on American roads would fail the UK test.
Only 70 % ?
I would say more like 100 %

I dont get it.
I got insured, with my UK license on an $18000 car for a shade over $100 a month. I've had the policy for about 8 months, had a US license for 3, and am buying a new (2004) car, similar value, and the insurance is $86 a month, and I'm under 25. If I was 25 the quote would be $63 a month. Can insurance vary so much from state to state? When I got quoted those the agent said that he was sorry it was so expensive, but Ohio was one of the more expensive states.
Are you the main driver or is your spouse the main driver noted on the insurance policy?

Yes, car insurance can indeed vary a lot from state as well as within a state. Even your zipcode will be criteria for the quote you get. I recall a question in quotes asking in which zipcode the vehicle will be parked...

In Michigan no matter how long you have had a US drivers license.

a 30 year old man whom has just passed his test will be treated the same as a 30 year old man whom has had his license 13 years.

I live where you live regards................

aarrhh that makes sense... I always wondered how come our insurance always seemed a lot lower than what most post here. When I moved here and passed my test, when insurance was up for renewal I shopped around for the best quote... we moved from allstate to progressive and it was actually cheaper for the 2 of us than it was for just my husband with allstate... go figure.

But with the no fault bollocks, we pay more per car than most other states in the union.
