Drivers licence Florida
#1
Hello,
I’m about to start my hopefully quick journey obtaining my Florida (cough DMV cough) drivers licence and had a few questions about the process.
I’m a Dual citizen and in the distant past held a CA and then a WA state DL of which both expired a long time ago. I take it this excludes me from the drugs course?
How do you arrange to take the written? (Just walk in?) How soon after taking the written must the practical be done?
Do you book your practical or again just walk in to DMV? I know I need my US passport, SS card and 2 proofs of address but can’t find much info on the website.
I will either be in a rental car or a purchased car which I take it is fine to take test in (fully insured of course).
And why can't I remember this stuff from when I did it before.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is helpful, but when my USC wife moved back to the USA, she had an expired Nevada licence, and the California DMV exchanged it with no issues.

Wow that was good. Florida will only accept valid out of state licenses for swaps. I have an OLD CA and WA but they are both really old (15 years or so).

On a side note my wife and I bought a car and got insured (through Progressive) using our UK licences no problem. The agent even told us that a UK licence was slightly cheaper to insure than if we had a FL licence which I found quite amusing. We paid $1100 for 6 months with good cover for everything.

Just make sure the insurance company knows you are not a visitor in the USA. They are insuring you based on a UK license, but that's not the license you'll be showing to the cops if there's an accident.
