Downpour

Re: Downpour
Well, the cost of the flood has come in. 3 houses are now vacant while the work gets done. All 3 have had to completely gut the downstairs, nothing can be kept. All furniture, carpets, appliances, everything is getting thrown into skips. Kitchens are being removed. 1 house has lost a lot of old photos and Wimbledon programs going back decades. A lot of other personal things are gone from several houses. A pebble driveway doesn't exist any more, but does exist in part in peoples gardens and all over the road. 2 cars are a right off, 3 cars are away being dried and fixed up. A couple of other houses had minor damage but are still chucking stuff out. Mud all over the place. Sounds like a complete mess still. I've also been told that they are predicting more flooding over the weekend. So much for the 24 million flood defense that was put in.

Re: Downpour
Just for a change it's been England that has had the worst of the rain and floods in the worst June weather ever recorded in the UK. My granparents live near Ledbury in Herefordshire and floods caused a lot of problems in the area after 50mm of rain fell in 70 minutes on 19 June and another 40mm on the 25th. Many of the manhole covers in the main streets were dislodged by the force of the flood water pouring down into the streets. There was a fantastic pic in the paper of a tornado near Telford in Shropshire, and there were more tonado/funnel clouds in some other places as well. This has been the weirdest June weather ever in the UK. Apparently tornadoes are becoming more common here. The weather in Scotland has not been anything like as bad as in England.
