Default Dogs and leash dumb question.

What is the lo-down on walking dogs in the US in rural areas.

I mean can I freely take my dog hiking and let the dog off the leash ?

I guess each state has different laws and rules right ?

I thought it was a lead?

Anyway I keep one in the back of the truck.

Does not get used very often.

When I go to True Value she is in there before me. Electric Doors. Ace she has to wait until someone opens the door or go around the back and use the employee entrance.

and then read any small print for any particular parks/trails...which would usually be posted if they're different from the norms of the county/city rules.

Well I have a bit of property and I don't drive around with dogs in the car/truck so they rarely leave it. But when they do they are under voice command.
