Default Does my SSN go with me for life?

I got my SSN when my school applied for an on-campus job for me. I've been using it for 7 years since I got it for everything I do in the states.

Now I have left the states for a few years, does my SSN remain to be mine for life?

Since I am a non-immigrant and I got it under such status, would the US government still grant me with the same SSN? or issue me another one if one day I become a US citizen?

Your SSN is for life - it doesn't matter how you got it or what happens to you afterwards. You will always have the same SSN.

Do you have as much affection for your phone number? Personally, I love my phone number more.

Haha...I paid a kid to give me his number that I wanted.

You can't do that for a SSN.

I love your SSN too! How much do you want for it?

Haha you guys. My husband actually did get a SSN that if I told you what it was, you'd think it was fake.

But as a Yank used to Tea Party squeals about numbers of the Beast, your manifest innocent affection for our de facto national ID number sent me into waves of helpless laughter. Carry on, chums.

My phone number causes a little confusion, because it repeats, and has a certain "business-like quality" to it, in the pattern abc xabc, and I occasionally get wrong numbers for a local business with the number xbc axbc.

When my in-laws moved to Tennessee, they went to the DMV to register their vehicles. My MIL was given a tag from the top of the pile ABC 665, and my FIL was given the next one down. Being squarely in the middle of the Bible belt, got ABC 667.

I got my SSN when I came here at 21 on a J1 visa.

I totally forgot about it, and when I moved back here at 30 on a fiance visa I applied for a new SSN. They found my old one and gave it back to me.

That makes sense. The SSN has all your past history on there. I'd love that one day I apply for permanent. I kept monitoring my credit ever since I left the states.

Even if you lose your memory and identity you don't get a new SSN number:
