Default Docs to take to DPS for change from Visitor to Resident

Since getting our greencards, I've been putting off the dreaded trip to the TX DPS to get the driving license changed from Visitor to a normal one. Every previous visit, I seem to have forgotten some essential document.

Does anyone know what I'm going to need? I'm thinking GC, temporary driving license and social security card. Anything else?

Thanks,

Doug.

Have you checked the states DMV site?

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverL...StatusDLID.htm

Quick google, all you need to show is your Greencard.

Out of curiosity whats difference does being a non-immigrant and immigrant have with regards to your drivers license?

Not sure on TX, but here in UT you only get a driving license for the term of your legally-allowed presence.

That means that I am now on my 2nd license - first one lasted until the expiry date of my I-94, this one lasts until the expiry date of my 2-year conditional green card. I'll then need to get another one when I get my 10-year green card, and then finally onto a normal structure when I get citizenship.

The state government does like to get as many pounds of flesh as it can in fees...

Not just me then? Just take every piece of paper you have in your home, and they will still want something else
