I missed it terribly when my parents brought me over. Then went for many years just accepting I'd always be here. My children are born here and I bought a home. But the little feeling inside never truly went away. Now I'm going home and feel very peaceful about my decision.

I've only been here 18 months and I miss it like crazy. There are things about California I like (Tahoe!!) but I have this constant aching and even if I have a good day it is guaranteed that at some point in the day I will be miserable with homesickness. I was home for 10 days in May/June and I didn't want to leave. After that I moved from LA to SF and I was happy for a while but now after just 4 months in SF I have that same aching, almost panic like feeling at times that I NEED to go home for good.

Miss being in a proper city, full stop. But also miss hanging out with mates, how easy it was back in blighty. And of couse miss certain things such as some of the food, tele etc, but either way, couldn't give a toss which country I'm in either way, feeling goes for this country too, it's just a place to stay at the end of the day ain't it.

Not lived in the UK for 7 years now - wouldn't want to move back there permanently. I like to go and visit, but after 2 weeks I'm usually ready to come away again.

I didn't miss England at all for the first 8 months when I lived in Phoenix, because it all felt like an extended holiday. I'd never lived in 100 degree heat before and I loved it. When I moved to Connecticut I had terrible delayed culture shock and got quite down for a while. I missed England terribly so I went home for a visit. It did the trick because I felt much better when I got back. I'm really enjoying being in the US now and I think it's because my life is finally settling down. I start my new job tomorrow and I have the first gig with my new band next week. It was tough to try and assimilate myself at first and get things to start happening, but once it did I realised that it's up to me to make life happen. What made my life good in England was friends, job and band and so I just applied that to the USA and tried to recapture the essence of what made my life enjoyable. I still miss England when I see it on the telly...it puts a lump in my throat if they talk about London or I see a place I recognize, but then I remember all the other stuff...small homes, cold and damp, expensive everything, yobbos etc, and then I feel infinitely better.

Very much. The longer I am stuck in the US, the more I want to go back to the UK.
Trouble is, getting a job as an unknown 47 year old in England....

I haven't been back to England since I left nearly three years ago. At times I think miss it but I know that I'm only thinking in nostalgic terms. Once I remember the reasons why I left in the first place I don't give it a second thought.
I'm taking Mr Sibsie to London this March. He's never been so I'll be showing him where I grew up and all the touristy bits. To be honest I could do without going.
