I don't know why they are quoting so much. Normally a checkup and cleaning cost about $150 (x-rays extra) so I would think that $350 should cover a checkup and replacement of a filling unless it will require a crown.

A filling at the dentist I use costs around $150. Yesterday, for example my teenage son had a filling, and an xrays and the cost before insurance was $210.

Get a free consultation and then get it done, the prices vary dramatically.

The problem in the US is that they will want to do loads of other work even if its not neccesary, you wait the old deep root cleaning quote will come out.

Anyways why is it so expensive you only live in a run down little shanty town, maybe the vet could do it on the cheap

From what I gather they can sting you for the first visit. Examination, x-rays, cleaning etc...before the dentist will do any fillings etc.

Even better idea! What's wrong with a piece of string tied to a doorknob then? Much cheaper and the tooth will be gone and never cost you anything else

As you know, I have been known to buy veterinary mouthwash, to avoid exorbitant dentists costs... and I've also pondered asking our vet to do the odd favour, like running blood panels, etc...

Mine would be about $120 for the initial appointment with x-rays. A composite filling would be around $280.
