Re: Decent Womens/Teen Girl Clothes Stores
Thank you everyone for your wonderful feedback. This has really helped loads. However I now have a 14 year old sitting with a list of stores and their location! Guess what I'll be doing come the weekend? Thanks again folks.

Also check Sierra Trading Post online (owned by Marshalls/TJ Maxx parent company). I get great winter boots and winter sport clothes from there (beware: no free returns).

My tween loves Hot Topic, it is aimed at kids a bit older than mine, more your daughters age, but she is a bit of a fledgling emo/goth, so its probably not everyone's cup of tea.

This is no joke: find yourself a got-to thrift store that is clean and well organized and you will find the most amazing bargains. Barely used and even brand new clothes from all the brands that you love for literal pennies.
I've bought brand new stuff still with the labels on for $2. And, the good thing about buying second hand denim is that it's not going to shrink once you wash it for the first time!

But you do have to be able & willing to cull through a lot of stuff you don't want/would never buy to find those gems that make this kind of shopping worthwhile. I think for kids with specific needs (such as clothes for the new school year) thrift shops don't work so well, either.
Good luck! I remember clothes shopping trips with my kids in a brand-new country. Always a somewhat surreal adventure....

i have found some decent items in kohls. have to pick out stuff as some is way too flash and some way too staid. but there is a middle ground that i can usually find.

Can anyone recommend the above? I'm mid 40's and my daughter is 14 and we are seriously struggling to find some nice autumn clothes. We've tried the likes of TJ Maxx, Ross and even Target and Walmart. Is there a US version of chains like Dorothy Perkins and New Look? We're in Katy, TX.

I've just looked at the US site of Welcome to Marks & Spencer (if it comes up with the UK site, just click on the British flag at the top of the page to change the country to the USA).
If you sign up for e-mails you get a further 10% off the first order
All their US prices include customs duty already paid (see the FAQs).
You get free shipping (express 3-5 days, trackable) if an order is over $50 and all returns are to a US address, not back to the UK.
**There is a 50% sale on right now!**
Sadly they don't do M&S food!

My 14 year old is happy to go to Gap and get most of her stuff. HM for the odd piece but she's now getting sniffy about target.... Her big sister is a thrift store genius. I don't know how she does it but she finds fabulous pieces amongst a lot of rubbish.

My wife also likes J.Jill but from what I've seen (and I've spent hours waiting in and around their stores!) it's mainly for middle-aged women and above. Nothing there for the 14yo daughter.

Just thought of one though for the teenage daughter is Aeropostale.
There is a store in one of my local malls, but they do mail order too.....as with most stores they seem to be having a sale at the moment:
Guys and Girls Clothes, Hoodies, Graphic Tees and Jeans | Aeropostale

Come to think of it, over the years I have seen one or two shopping malls which really are almost dead here in New Jersey...
