Ha ha.....be prepared if you're ever thinking about getting engaged over here. From what I've observed, the engagement ring seems to be a far more important thing here compared to the UK and the general idea is that the guy must spend approx 3 months salary on the ring (which is usually a large diamond solitaire, preferably from Tiffany's not the sapphires/rubies/emerald and diamond rings that British girls usually go for).

Hey - what's wrong with thongs aka g-strings? I wear them from time to time... I have to say I don't like tattoos on women and girls unless they are small and discreet. Angelina Jolie and Pink have gone too far and Posh Spice is heading the same way...my friend calls them 'Tramp Stamps' LOL. I can't imagine how these tattoos are going to look when these women are all in their 70s...yuck!

you think 1970a was late for ending segregation!?

my wife's high school in knoxville didn't degegregate until the 90's!!!

my wife has a nice engagement ring (although certainly not from tiffanys), but part of that was with the understanding that she would be a working mom - but thats another thread money's gotta come from somewhere

I think it will be funny in 40 years time when we have all these grandkids asking grandma 'what's that weird looking faded wrinkly thing on your lower back grandma?'

one of our friends (33 years old so should know better by now) just got a 'tramp stamp' - a scorpio glyph.

when she told me what she was planning I wought it would be small and black.

oh no

its multicoloured (red yellow purple and green) and about 3-4 inches wide and tall. in essence it looks like a parrot threw up on her back.

she was complaining that her cousin in texas called it a tramp stamp which I tactfully declined to comment on, although my tactless wife did suggest that many guys will be of the opinion that the 'tramp stamp' implies to guys that anal sex is on the menu

Aye, and that's a good thing, because you wouldn't want to see a BMW getting jiggy with it

I am a american woman and I think most american's are materialistic so lets not just blame the women. I think you will be able to find a nice girl without the "tramp stamp" or any tattoos because that was a trend more in my generation than it is right now. The young college girls really don't have the tattoos anymore. You will find your share of skanks in America. I saw the girls gone wild bus driving down the road 3 days ago. You will also be able to find girls that are not like that my advice would be don't look for a girl to date in a nightclub. If you are going to college you should have no problem finding a nice girl or a skank. As for the thongs everyone wears them even English girls you will just have to deal with that.

Leave Paris Hilton out of this. She ain't normal or indicative of the average American woman. I would say that the majority of AW all want the same things in a marriage that you do and the only thing materialistic that they are looking for is a husband that can provide for their family not one that can purchase homes in three states and drives a BMW.

I think that the majority of women in the US of marriageble age are 'high maintenance' and feel sorry for the poor blokes who have to marry them.

Have you heard of the Amish? If that doesn't appeal to you perhaps check out a place called Salt Lake City, UT. You might find a girl (or two, or three!)there who still wears bloomers.

thats a good point I wonder what the poster has about thongs?

Is he saying that women who wear them a girls gone wild style depraved sluts?

i'm pretty sure that every woman I know under 35 has at least one thong in their underwear collection

infact, if you are with a heavier lady, as americans are more statisically likely to be compared to brits, the thong has the advantage of not creating 4 butt cheeks than a 'regular pantiy' can do when it cuts into large amounts of butt-flesh

Doesn't anyone else find this sort of extreme stereotype offensive? Frankly, it's scary that there are people so stupid to actually believe that about a group of people just because of their gender and nationality. Are there some of you who honestly think or assume that I'm a slut because I'm American? Or that Rete is covered with tattoos or that Rene has a self-produced collection of porn, because they're both Americans, too? Does it matter that there are American women who participate on these forums who don't deserve to be described in the above manner, just because they're Americans?

Would anyone tolerate someone posting racist comments based on stereotypes because only a few forum participants are of the targeted race? How is this any different??

No one has to answer that -- I know no one will take those questions seriously, they're rhetorical, anyway...
