Today is Pearl Harbor Day in the US.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt: Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of American was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

Well, Leslie -- in reading history the British were relieved that the US would finally join the war effort in earnest. That's not to say they weren't sorry about the deaths, but I'll bet more people died in the Blitz. I'll have to check that, but...

There's speculation that the US knew the Japanese intended to attack via intelligence sources and ignored the warning, as they wanted to get involved in the war. I don't know how reliable that info. is ?
