I don't want to be saying your advice is crap.........but if every immigrant had done that there wouldn't be any curry houses, pho restaurants, tamale stands etc. food is culturally important and someone making bangers and mash with bistro gravy whilst immersed in US culture isn't making any kind of mistake.

There isn't a large Native American population in Alabama. No matter. You seem happy.

MsElui wrote a fabulous post. I would only add that I find it very worthwhile having several plastic UK measuring jugs in addition to a pyrex one.

I guess being out in the sticks here in Alabama is why i don't see many of the restaurants you mention, Curry, Pho for example, mostly corporate chains or "soul food" here sure not seen any "bangers" only Italian links. Maybe thats why i never see Native American restaurants here, overrun by immigrants?

Snook is a South African fish which was canned and shipped to the UK in huge quantities and at great expense by the British government in the late 40s/early 50s in an attempt to feed the rationed population. (Rationing after the war was far worse than during. Many economists blame War debts combined with the loss of Imperial markets).
Although culinary standards in 1950s Britain are legendary, the canned fish was so disgusting that the government at the time even got into electoral trouble over it. It was later seen as a prime example of how not to deal with a food crisis.
I saw it on "Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain" so it must be true

Oxo might be iffy to bring in as you'd not be allowed so if you got searched...
Packets of sage stuffing is good...most packets of stuffing here is minging if you can't be bothered to make your own.
Yorkie pud tins, they're hard to find those shallow pans here.
Small digital scales, if you're into baking and have a lot of UK books. Can get them here, but they're usually really expensive and a small one doesn't take up much space.
Marmite, it's expensive here, same for Robinson's.
Radox bath/shower stuff, do they still have that? If you're into baths, worth bringing some over.
I wouldn't bother with crisps or biscuits as they're likely to get crushed if you're stuffing your bags with so much stuff.
You can get most things here and Amazon has it all too, but it's a bit galling spending $2.50 on a can of Heinz beans and $7 for a bottle of Robinsons etc.
