It sounds like you've been given exceptionally poor advice by the company so far (and very wise advice on here). I'd think hard about whether you want to up sticks and move for a company that has such limited knowledge and understanding of immigration and visas.

One thing which doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet is whether you want to stay permanently, visas can only be used for 7 years. If you want to stay forever (I assume you wouldn't bother bringing the dogs over otherwise) your employer will need to sponsor your Green Card application. Make sure they are willing to do that (and get it in writing).

When I posted on here about moving it was also suggested that we get our own attorney for a consultation to make sure everything was in order. I scoffed a bit at the idea at the time, but with hindsight, it would have been a sensible idea. There were a few screw-ups along the way although nothing compared to our employer suggesting that we should use the VWP and potentially causing us a huge tax liability, as yours seems to be.

Thank you all for the GREAT advice have already got him to have a word about the visas , and the idea of getting an attorney seems like it would be a good idea and taking charge for ourselves . Thank you all fingers crossed for now .
