Then probably come over here for school holidays (half term, end of term, summer holidays). Unless things change in the next year or 2 & I grow to like it, but I really don't see me being happy with anything here, I really don't like it.

Wow... tough one this health insurance lark.....
We had health insurance... Hubby had indigestion for 5 years... Till he collapsed with a heart rate of 280 beats per minute..
His heart surgery alone was billed to us at $96,000 that did not include the pre surgery stuff, Emergency room bills, tests etc.... With insurance it only cost us about $160 in co pays...... PHEW!!!!
One thing I was wondering.... There may be a problem getting insurance for a pre existing heart condition anyway, especially if it is known surgery will be a possibility in the future.....
I work for the NHS now in the UK... Yes it has it's faults, but everyone gets care here, not just people who can afford it...
I hate posting negative stuff, but this is such an important part of living safely in the US, I felt I had to post....
Oh and from experience.. Nursing in the US....
Insured = gets all the treatment, just charged to the ins comapany.
Not insured= patch up and get out, unless you can pay NOW!
Local hospital in Northridge were demanding $500 cash a few years back for women in labour to get their epidural... They were actually sending the husbands to the ATM, saying no cash no epidural for your wife here in agony..... Now thats BAD!!!!!

Hey, long time no see! One of those who was around when I joined, don't see that too often. How is the UK treating you? Apart from the NHS I mean.
Wish we had socialised medicine here. Everybody has to pay, everybody gets when they need it. It's a public good - everybody benefits if everybody can get decent care, except, of course, the insurance companies. Of course it has its defects, but then so does any system. Speaking as one who has only emerged from the great ranks of the uninsured earlier this year (self-employed) I know which of the two choices seems more humane and practical to me.

Personally I think the NHS is superb! If I'd have been born here in the States, then I'd probably be dead by now. So, I guess I can say I owe my life to the NHS. I had a great career with them too.

The medical future does not look bright for us, I see heart surgery in my future & we'll be bankrupt if I need to have it before we can afford insurance. I wanna go back home where I don't have to think about how much it's gonna cost before we go to the doctors. The NHS rulz, Brits over there don't know how lucky they are (well some of them do!).
