Eleven winters here now, I think! Only this last one got me down - but I was working in a school where we had to take the kids out twice a day regardless of the temperature Also, it was the only winter I hadn't been skiing. I think the winter is more tolerable if you can find fun things to do in the snow!

I think it compares favourably cost-wise to greater London. We live in a suburb west of the city and have no complaints. Still half a mind to move somewhere warmer/cheaper one day, but meanwhile we like life here. Boston is a fun city with lots to do and feels more European somehow than many other US cities.
