Friends of ours, UK citizens, are going to be visiting a brother in Mexico. They will be going out of and into the USA at the border crossing near San Diego, being driven by the brother. Anyone know what sort of time frame they will be waiting to be processed, as we are hoping to meet up with them once they are back in the US and before they fly out of San Diego. It will either be a Wednesday or a Friday if that makes any difference. Mods, move this to the correct area if needed.

Otay Mesa may also be better - or then again may not. Worth checking both before heading out. Border wait times were better earlier this year when new lanes were opened, but now seem to be back to business as usual.
Weirdly I've only been through the border around 11pm-midnight on Friday nights as a pedestrian. No wait then!

I wonder if it's changed any? It used to take on average a couple of hours to get through...

San Ysidro: 5 hours in a car average - Friday evenings are busy! 2 hours average in the queue if you are on foot.

San Ysidro is probably the worst land crossing to enter the US because of how busy it is and the long waits, good location though with public transit, but man is it a pain to cross sometimes.
Expect a fairly decent wait all the way to an obnoxious wait, but last time I crossed there by car, plenty of street vendors to buy food from without ever leaving your car.
