Citizenship

Finally did it. I'm an American.
Not much of an American as I rolled my eyes and internally snarked through the citizenship ceremony. That's 2 1/2 hours of my life I'm never going to get back but I've got my certificate and should never have to deal with USCIS again which is the important bit.
The other important bit is thanking all of you lot. From when I first started lurking and discovered there is no 'live with your US boyfriend to try it out' visa through terrifying health scares, irritating medical/mental health delays, secret courthouse marriage, losing my vaccine record, Big fat Chinese Wedding, , hiccups with AOS, removal of conditions, Baby and healthcare nonsense, all the way through to todays ceremony; a collection of avatars and internet names has been very helpful, often brutally so.
The advice and support I got here has helped keep me sane and pointed me in the direction of some acceptable sausages, bacon and pork pies.
I know I will miss a few people and I apologise but thank you to Rete, Rene, Ian, Folinsky, JerseyGirl, Meauxna, BluegrassLass, JEff, Iansbury, Moxie, Ozzidoc, Nutmegger, CAdreaming, FatBrit (RIP), penguinbar, Sir Eccles, Bob, Weeze, Dean from the British Consul, bewildering, Speedwell, Nutek, Pulaski, Sugarmooma, civilservant, Sally Redux, amerLisa, Michael, Englishmum, and everyone else who answered my questions, offered sympathy and support. I probably could have done it without you but I'm glad I didn't have to.

Congratulations, now you need to get your passport and put your certificate in a safe place. It's around $400 to get a replacement certificate, lot less for a passport. If you ever start a new job they will want to see proof of citizenship and the passport makes it easy.

Jury duty has been a nightmare for my husband. His English is ok for daily stuff, but nowhere near good enough to understand what's being said in a court room. So the first time he got summoned, we checked the box that said language ability not good enough. Someone from the court called him to verify, and he was excused. The next time he was summoned, he was already scheduled to be back in Iran to care for his elderly father, so we were able to postpone 6 months. His new date was supposed to be August 11, but on July 21 his younger brother here in the USA died from a sudden heart attack. So my husband went back to Iran, with his brother's body, and we had to ask for another postponement. Ugh. I hope they don't give him a date too soon, he's going to be there for several months.
His English still isn't good enough to serve, anyway. Once he goes one time in person, they're going to just say go home.

Congratulations on never having to deal with USCIS again. Oh, and you can register to vote.At my ceremony they played that "I'm Proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free" song. I mumbled ferfuksake under my breath......

I remember that myself.
