I'm going to the UK in February to renew my visa (all being well) and I need to be able to keep a US number for my business. I currently use Straight Talk pay as you go, which isn't going to work. Can anyone suggest what I might do please...I really don't want a contract if I can help it.

I know several people who have gone with Google Fi recently - and are very pleased with the service.

My phone mainly works on wifi so does not matter where I am.

It's a great service, but need to ensure the phone you have supports it.

This is my set-up.
I have t-mobile which gives me free unlimited data (but at 2g) outside the USA. Works fine.
get a google voice number :
you'll need to open a gmail account if you don't already have one.
then set up the google voice account - you can request a number local to you in the USA - this will be a regular telephone number.
Put $10 onto the account
install a hangouts dialler on your cell phone.
Provided you have wifi or a data connection you can now take incoming calls and make outgoing calls from your normal cell phone. Costs are 1cent a minute from the UK back to the USA.

I have a USA "Skype In" phone number that rings on my mobile just as if it was a phone call. You can get that (or Google Fi) and forward your existing number to the new number.
