Car insurance
Probably done to death before but hey ho.
I still find it odd that policies are only 6 months. I am up for renewal and frankly can't be bothered to shop around again.
Do you re- address every time, or just re-new?
Any savings to be made? I have never made an insurance claim in 10 years so I must be due soon....

Re: Car insurance
I would always check around to make sure nobody else was offering a lower price, I insurance hopped like crazy, every time it was up to be renewed, why pay more if you dont have to.
I wasn't loyal to any one company, longest I stayed with 1 company was 2 years then I found a lower price and switched.

Re: Car insurance
You can typically cancel, get a refund for the unused portion of the policy, and move your business elsewhere any time you like, so the length of a policy is pretty much moot as far as this is concerned.

Re: Car insurance
We just renew, though I leave insurance up to Mrs P. Following a recent BE thread on car insurance I asked Mrs P what we're paying, and I was shocked how low it is. I sincerely doubt there is much downside for us to exploit, and we're with Erie, so an established and respected name. We're paying $400 p.a. for our Accord, and about the same for the F250. In 10 &11 years respectively, we've never claimed on either.

We were with Progressive for 9 years, I would occasionally check and they remained the cheapest until a year ago they hiked the rate by 10%, we had never made a claim and my speeding ticket had long since expired, we did renew with them on the last renewal they hiked it another 12%, again we had not made a claim etc. After shopping around we switched to Geico and are saving $200. Three weeks after we switched I got into an accident that caused $8000 worth of damage to my vehicle, the other driver was held 100% at fault so it will be interesting to see if it has any affect on the renewal rate.

Was with Farmers' for about 10 years. They treated me pretty good until I got divorced - they immediately jacked my premium by 80%. Progressive, who had always quoted me a pretty high rate, then quoted me 10% less than I had been paying, so I switched. After three years with no claims, they dropped another 25% off my premium.

geico, progressive, state farm. Any company you hear advertising on the radio, high risk drivers, avoid.
Mature sensible driver then try the likes of farmers etc.
2006 Honda odyssey, 2007 infiniti g35 sport. $700 6 months. $300 $600 coverage. If you have teenage drivers get umbrella insurance.

Remember when others post here what their annual or semi-annual premiums are that location is a big part of the premium. Here in the metropolitan area of NYC, rates are high as I'm sure it would be for say, Chicago. I have no accidents, tickets, etc. and no longer have more than one vehicle or driver under my policy and I do not have my tenant policy with them so I pay $1200 every 6 months for a 2013 Elantra.

Re: Car insurance
Before the divorce, I was on the ex's State Farm policy. After, I went with the first one I found - Geico - and it seemed a a good price. Then it started creeping up and about 2 years ago I switched to Progressive, via the agent that did my home insurance. It was significantly less, and has dropped a little each time since, although I just got a notice that they are reducing medical payments coverage, which prompted my question.
I have a '94 Nissan Maxima. The premiums have varied between $320-$420 per 6 months overs 4 years. It just seems arbitrary who gets a good deal from which company. Even within my office coworkers there is no discernible best option.
