Car Hire Question
Guys, we're coming over for a look around Seattle and the surrounding area in March and are trying to find a decent car hire place which does 4x4 SUV types, we've looked at the usual Hertz/Avis type places but they dont have any big SUV type cars in stock, is this normal or am i missing something?
Thanks in Advance....

Re: Car Hire Question
Out of curiosity, why do you want an SUV? Going offroad?
I'm guessing car rental places simply don't stock many SUVs, especially urban areas.

Re: Car Hire Question
I think many places have them (airports often have the biggest inventory of cars in general) although they can charge a sodding fortune for them.

Why, unless you really need it would you want one though? Chevy Suburban half ton will cost about $100 to fill up and it handles like a leaking bag of spuds...lot of fun though, but I'd not want to park it or gun the engine

Re: Car Hire Question
There are four of us plus bags, ski gear etc and we want to tour around areas between Seattle and the Canadian border... I can see large SUV's etc on Avis/Hertz but you're right we'd be looking at big bucks to hire for the best part of a month... So i was hoping for something equivalent to an estate, i think Americans call them station wagons, but basically we cant find anything with enough room for us all plus bags without forking out big time...
I guess we're just going to have to suck it up and pay, can't see a better option... thanks for all the advice.

Re: Car Hire Question
Hertz in Seattle should be able to rent you a Tahoe or Yukon which should be plenty big for 4 of you and all your ski stuff @ $800 a week, if they are too big there is the Traverse @ $500 a week booking well in advance should ensure that they shuffle vehicles so they will have your choice or close in stock

Re: Car Hire Question
Use the following link to get promo codes for the different rental companies.
http://www.rentalcodes.com/index.html
Also check the prices on the discount rental companies (Enterprize, Dollar, Thrifty, etc.) since they seem to be about 20% cheaper than the major companies (Hertz, Avis, or Budget).
For example, Thrifty (with a 7% promo code) has a Ford Escape for $285 per week, a Dodge Caravan for $352, or a Jeep Cherokee for $397. There are also taxes and fees that will be added to those prices.
