Thanks. I actually just did and came here just to post it so that someone else who may stumble upon this thread in the future might find it useful. With a H1-B, when they request an extension and it is granted by USCIS, I will apparently receive a new I-94 which would allow me to stay for that additional period. So I wouldn't have to leave the country just to get a new visa after all. Yay. Only when I have to leave the country do I need to apply for a new visa and get it.
