I don't think a sport has to be a physical thing, it just has to be a competition surely? Whether it's played by running around for 90 minutes or sitting on your arse for 5 hours. The same way that chess is a sport.
I'm just interested that if it can't be categorized as a sport as to what it should be categorized as.

Well, by that reasoning playing Monopoly, hopscotch and the roulette wheel could all be sports. Doesn't mean it makes them good TV like football, basketball, athletics, tennis etc

The dictionary says:
""Sport: Any competitive activity or experience that gives enjoyment or recreation and requiring a set of rules or some traditional form; pastime; diversion.""
So it would seem that my inital reasoning was correct and not flawed at all and I never suggested that poker was good TV either.
"Good TV like basketball"??? Do leave off!!!!!

Poker is hugely popular, so it's obvious why ESPN and Fox are cashing in.

I like Poker.
I'm not too bad at it either, everyone seems to have jumped on "Texas holdEm" which is thick man's poker. I prefer 7 card stud myself.
the wife is ruthless at Poker, a couple of months ago in the casino, having never played real live 'for money' Hold Em, she walked in with $100 and walked out with $275. ruthless

This begs the question. Do those two stations show competitive eating contests?
