Our local phone company, also our cable and internet provider, did this - basically forced us to go to VOIP although no other changes to billing/rates, etc. All comes through their black box now and the phone line quality is much better than before (when it wasn't good enough for dial up Internet!).
I have cable and Internet from the same people but the phone with them would have been 7c per min to UK, Vonage (if it works) is free. I told them to remove that $1 they billed me besides the $45 but they said they did not do it, morons, I watched it pop up:curse: |

The $1 is common when you're ordering a service from any US company. As soon as you give them a card number, they reserve $1 on it to check it's kosher. The transaction will then be cancelled. It's a sort of mini credit check if you like. Look at your account tomorrow and it will probably be gone.

They billed me the first $45 before I even agreed, I was in my bank site while I was talking to them, lol I saw first $1 charge and then another $45 (for activation) It will take 5 days for then to send it.
It comes with unlimited free calling at anytime to UK and the US. I will keep you posted. Meanwhile, until it kicks in I will us that number a few of you have posted. I used it yesterday to call an old aunt who had just been served a hot dinner by her daughter so I did not chat:rofl: She called me back after she ate. I love her, she is 87 and the nicest woman in the world. (IMO) No connection issues so far, always crystal clear. Just remember to add a back-up number in your profile. My Vonage gets redirected to my cellphone if the power goes out. When I call my daughter in the UK, it's like she is sitting right next to me. |

Something like this |
Re: CALLING HOME!
Both of my phones are cordless but one has an answering machine also and you have to plug it into an electrical outlet:confused: Will they give me attachments for both or will this be extra per month?

Works a treat:thumbsup: IIRC the voangae adaptor has ports for 2 phones to be plugged in or is it for 2 lines (I need to go check, which means dusting the the poor wee box down and having a look:blink:) |

cheers (saves me digging down behind the tv to find the box:thumbup:) |
Re: CALLING HOME!
You two are the best. Is there a charge for the second line? I did ask Vonage chappy that but he just said it may be possible:confused: I spoke to a woman too, she drove me to the point of madness. She called me back to see if she could sign me up (must work on commission!) but she had not been able to answer one question.:frown:

Re: CALLING HOME!
Bit late on in the discussion but thought I'd throw in the service I use:
Calling card called Mega Clean and Stable (odd name...) obtained from www.viapin.com - 1.7c (UK) and I also often call Germany (2c) and Italy (2.1c). No connection charge or any bollocks like that. They round up to the next minute, but at these prices who cares? |

Re: CALLING HOME!

Not much to it. Either connect it straight to the modem or to your router, then plug in your phone.
I mean if anything goes wrong later. Time Warner come out within two days if anything is wrong with your cable TV and they walk you through the steps you need if anything goes wrong with your PC, or I believe they will come out for that too. |

Really. There seems to be so much out there. I can't wait to get the Vonage. I wish I had consulted you guys before I just bought my mobile, you are a mine of information. I never think to ask anyone, I just buy things spur of the moment, not good!! |

They will usually charge you the connection fees when you order the box and the line. You just don't get to pay the first month of service (but we all know the connection fee kind of makes up for that ;) )
The best thing right now is to refer friends. Good little deal going on there. I know, I told the guy someone recommended me and came in here for her name (someone PM'd to say she liked hers when she read my post on here) but she was not on line for me to get her name!! Shame, I would have liked to get her whatever it was they were offering! |

The best thing right now is to refer friends. Good little deal going on there. The connection was billed right after the dollar, $44.95. By coincidence I was in my bank on line while I was talking to Vonage and saw the two prices come up before I even finished chatting to them. |

That surprises me. Your Vonage account is where you setup all the forwarding, back-up numbers etc. I was playing with my online account before my Vonage box arrived.
