Glory days, eh? But the sharp decline in popularity has set in ever since Terry sat up in her bed and asked for water. And it will surely continue since this administration can't make a right move on any issue at the moment...

Yes, but if they keep it hanging around for too long, even the dim rednecks who intentionally voted for Bush might start asking awkward questions such as "y'all promised to stop th' lib'rals a-killing all th' babies, how come y'all ain't done it yet?". Then the GOP would be even more reliant on electoral corruption and fiddling with the voting machines in order to stay in power.

Well, doesn't everyone know that Becks is going to dump Posh for Ronaldo?
I'd say the club would think that was an issue.

Getting back on point, does anyone have an opinion on the nominee?

Are you Pigtails in disguise?

Last year's election was pretty close, was it not? It was the votes of the evangelicals and similar who mystifyingly believe republicans are a shining beacon of "moral values" that proved to be the difference in Bush's favour.
The republicans are quite adept at getting the various single-issue groups to vote for them based on their one pet issue (abortion, gay marriage) even when voting republican is in direct conflict with their own economic self-interest.

That's your opinion, which you are entitled to. But to say that 62 million people are evangelicals or single issue groups seems a little far fetched; more like sour grapes. Bush won fair and square and the Democrats are now resorting to underhand tactics in the Senate, with Bush's judicial nominees, to try and get their own back.

The filibuster is built into the American checks-and-balances system; it's no more toy-throwing than is a Presidential veto.

I'd like to see the Dems hide out in Canada so that the Senate can't get a quorum.

Yes, actually it was, and the 2000 election was *very* close.

Read it again: I didn't say that everyone who voted for Bush was an evangelical or single issue voter, I said that that group of voters basically held the balance of power in the election, and that the republicans are particularly adept at pandering to them to secure their votes.

As for the democrats resorting to underhand tactics because they lost the election, hello pot, meet kettle.
