Just paid mine off on Monday, took advantage of the good exchange rate (and of having over 12 months of money saved).

I considered not paying and not telling them I’d moved country. But my mum always drilled it into to me to take responsibility for my actions blah blah, even though I’m over 30 there’s no escaping parental influence lol.

My advice is get in touch with them, negotiate a lower settlement (as has already been mentioned) and set up a repayment schedule; after all you’re not a charity and I’m sure you had a good time spending the money!

Good for you...well done.

When you leave a debt behind...you leave it for others to pay..be that taxpayers or consumers.

People have posted on here that they left debts behind in the UK....to find their relatives were harassed by debt collectors.

yeah, but private loans are a bit different to student loans...especially when they changed the T&C's a fair bit on you after a couple years in, when you don't have an option, nor do they make it easy on you to pay them back...they are pretty useless and if they were a business, they'd have run themselves into the ground with their quality organisational skills

So if they can sell on your loan without notifying you,is their anything that says they cant change the terms and conditions? How can they do this, as its a legal document you sign with a government based company?
