Is anyone as fed up with American newspapers as i am? I get the 'Weekly Telegraph" sent to me which is my journalistic saviour but is anyone aware of any company that will send me the Times, Times on Sunday, Telegraph etc etc I'd even read the Guardian! I don't care if the paper was a week old when i got it, i just want to read DECENT news, written properly in the Queens english focusing on important issues.
The funniest thing i saw in the local paper (which my USC wife reads) was something about the Czech republic, spelt Chech republic and the story was about Czech Doctors, who they referred to as Chech Physicists????
Any interesting stories???
Cheers,
Adam

Well, where do you live?
We were up in CT last weekend and found a great newsagent opposite Yale University and it carried quite a few British newspapers.
I reckon then, that if you live near a large university or perhaps an upmarket hotel in a large city, you will get a better chance of tracking down some Brit papers.
I was once meeting my husband who was flying in to Newark airport and saw a fellow walking past with a trolley full of "The Daily Mail/Guardian/The Times" and asked him if they were for sale. He laughed and said that they were the papers given out to passengers on incoming flights from the UK and discarded. He gave me a couple free of charge! Now I know that some enterprising Hong Kong newsagent collects them and sells them on to the expats, but I don't think anyone does it in the US. What a pity, as they're all thrown away.
I know that you can read the newspapers online, but it's just not the same as having a copy in your hands.
I get the International Express on subscription but like the Weekly Telegraph the news is not exactly up to the minute is it?

NYC, you can buy all the National British newspapers, one day old. You can't buy the London Evening Standard. You can also read a lot of the papers online, including London Evening Standard. Not the same as the real thing. I just came back from UK last week. I brought back several newspapers, my NY friends enjoy reading them.

Have you checked around your area for English/Irish store?

Try Borders...last time I was there they had the Times and the Sun. Opposite ends of the spectrum maybe, but at least they had them! They were a week old and I can't imagine anyone spending $3.50 on a copy of the Sun, but when you're desperate... I am going to get my sister to send me copies of the Mail every month. I will really miss it, together with my 24hr Sky News satellite channel.

From: Florida; Scottish fiance living in England.

I pretty much only read the Scotsman online and the Scotland on Sunday. They can deliver the entire paper via email, and the news about the States is even more broad and thoughtful than the local papers at times.

I don't have the details at hand but if you look at the Guardian website, there's probably info on it there. I know the US office for the Guardian Weekly is in NY.
Your local public TV station probably broadcasts the BBC news (world edition) once a day. It's broadcast at 11pm in the Triangle, NC.

Personally struggling with the papers here. The local local ones are real smalltown, the UK editions are normally 8 days late (8 days!!) so I normally settle for a WSJ or NY Times which don't really scratch the itch effectively. Maybe I'll get used to them...
Just found this website - www.newsglance.co.uk gives a good overview of what the main UK papers are covering, adn links directly into their sites. Totally agree its not as good as the real copy (can't take it to the smallest room for a start) but at least its up to date.
