British Beef is coming

Us Uk Trade Deal

In a win for both nations, we have agreed new reciprocal market access on beef
with UK farmers given a tariff free quota for 13,000 metric tonnes. There will be no weakening of UK food standards on imports.

Good luck actually finding any - 13,000MT is 0.1% of the US beef market.

Is it going to be high-end, expensive mail-order? In which case, easy to identify? I assume a high proportion of the US beef market is ground beef and other anonymous meat products.

Yeah, that was my thought too - I assume "high end" and then it will likely go into the restaurant business, or sold through specialist retailers at high end restaurant prices per pound either in major cities or by mail order. I just can't see British beef showing up in your local supermarket.

Does the agreement also cover mutton? Curious if I could import a McSweens haggis under the deal?

Mutton wasn't "banned", as the beef restrictions arose because of BSE aka "mad cow disease". .... Apparently the CDC had never heard of "scrapie".

Aha I see the Times reported MacSweens recently reformulated the recipe to replace sheep lung with sheep heart to meet US import guidelines https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/25/d...rns-night.html

But the Guardian report it won’t be available until 2026 https://www.theguardian.com/food/2025/jan/18/scotland-haggis-maker-macsween-us-rules
