Bread
Bit of a strange one this, but does anyone know where you can get the same sort of break you have in the UK, for example hovis or kingmsmill?
Or is there an equivalent...been in Atlanta for 2 months and that's the one thing a really miss lol

Re: Bread
Buford Highway Farmers market has a good bloomer style loaf in the East European bakery.
I get rolls from Lee's Bakery also on Buford Highway They are like little french bread rolls.
The closest I've found in the mainstream supermarkets to Kingsmill white is the pepperidge farm white country loaf, but it's not very much like it and tastes super sweet

Re: Bread
Don't buy bread in a supermarket. Find a local bakery.

Re: Bread
If you are limited to the supermarket look in the in store bakery rather than the pre packaged stuff in the "bread" aisle.

Re: Bread
The closest thing I've found to Hovis is Hannaford 9-grain bread which they make in their bakery. But they're only really in New England. I actually just ordered some... https://www.hannaford.com/product/Ha...eyword=9-grain
You can try making your own with ingredients from somewhere like King Arthur flour. I've done it. Doesn't really taste like Hovis though.

Re: Bread
High-fructose corn syrup is prevalent in US bread. High-fructose corn syrup acts as a preservative by reducing moisture content, but also satisfies the American's sweeter palate.
We went through a stint of making our own bread with an electric bread maker, but the relatively short shelf life made it difficult to keep up with our busy schedules.
The only store bought bread I've found palatable is Nature's Own 12 Grain bread or the in store bakery's Ciabatta bread sold in my local Albertson's.

Re: Bread
Publix bakery section does Italian bread that isn't too bad. I've also found Dave's Killer Bread to be pretty decent but I can only find that in Sam's Club but I do live in the middle of nowhere so you may have better luck.

Re: Bread
Sourdough breads are slightly less sweet, whole foods do an ok one. I gave in and bought a bread maker, which will make nice loaves like the 'farmhouse' style back in UK supermarkets.
I made small 1.5lb loaves, the bread was fine for two days for butties and great for toast after that (but rarely any left by then). I also used to slice and freeze (like a sliced loaf) as soon as it was cool, and those defrosted slices were fine for same-day sandwiches if the loaf was wrapped well in the freezer. And of course, great for toast straight from the freezer.

Re: Bread
If you really want to taste outstanding types of bread try two restaurants: Red Lobster and Texas Roadhouse. Of course, especially the latter, it is too American for some taste, but still... ;-)

For a moment I thought you were about to say go to "Olive garden" for the unlimited breadsticks.

Re: Bread
Buy "low carb" bread which is widely available, has no HFCS and little or no sugar.
Around here Walmart and mainstream groceries sell a "Nature's Own" low carb bread, and possibly others, and BJ's sells their own Wellsley Farm brand low carb bread.
By "bread" I assume you mean "cheese biscuits".
