Re: Boy Scouts in the USA
No-one has asked the crushingly obvious question: do they have woggles over here?
Brownsea Island is a 17 mile stone's throw from my parents' house. Lord Baden Powell and all that. I lasted 2 weeks in the cubs. Didn't like the authority, man. Actually, nothing wrong with it. Just wasn't my thing. |
Re: Boy Scouts in the USA
Thanks all for the responses - helps to put my mind at rest a bit! Our boy just finished kindergarten, so he can join cubs when he starts first grade after the summer. We'll see where his classmates are going (if any), check that out and get involved.
This being the SF Bay Area, I can't see the religion thing being that big here. We'll see how it goes... Cheers, Pat |

They don't call 'em woggles - it's a "slide" that holds the neckercheif together! I'd much rather woggle :D |
Re: Boy Scouts in the USA
My two sons were in the Cub Scouts and then the Boy Scouts they had the best times. Nothing was ever brought up about religion it did them a great deal of good. When they were older they did attend our local Church to get God and Country award but you dont have to do that if you dont want to. Anyway to me it was find. I found it to be a great character builder its not for all boys but if you dont like it after the first few try's dont go back.
Like someone said parents mainly Dads have to be part of it and help out. My husband went on many trips with boys and they had lots of fun, well there were a couple of times when hubby may not have enjoyed it. When the canoe overturned and when he got really sick with some of the food they ate. But you have to be prepared to help out. |
