The last time I went for a Fondue, was at a restaurant in a burb outside Chicago, where they refused to sell a bottle of red wine to 1 person (me) I had to ask for two glasses

Think there's a chain of them - one in Schaumburg too.

I keep meaning to go, but I have a fear of something hot and runny dripping off the end of my chin

Hi guys,

Can someone help me out with the cost of living and salary etc for Redmond/Seattle?

I ideally need a website (or even personal experience is better) that tells me how much renting costs (for example, a decent sized 2 bedroom apartment in a nice area), how much a house costs (for example, a decent sized 4 bedroom in a nice area with garden, garage etc). I also need cost of living information, eg: how much do utility bills cost etc. I know it's all pieces-of-string question but guidelines will help me hugely.

For example, this is the answer I'm looking for if it was a UK question: in the UK in a major city I'd expect to pay £700+ for a decent sized 2 bedroom apartment. Expect £50 per month on electricity, £30 on water, £50 on phone, £50 on cable tv/internet, £xxx on council tax, etc etc etc. Food about £100 per week for 2 people.

It's all to help me answer the "what do you expect your salary to be" question which I've just been asked. I'd like as much info as possible up front so I can guage whether I'm being offered the going rate. Converting a UK salary to US $ is pointless.

Also, does anyone know of a website where I can look up my industry and role and see a ballpark salary range for it?

This is pretty urgent as this has just come out of nowhere! Thanks!
http://www.payscale.com/ will give you an idea of wage for job though you will have to give your e-mail address, but is good.
I'm in a 2 bed townhouse in Redmond at $1500 roughly a month, (mine is top of line though but the longer you will sign up for a lease the prices go down accordingly. I am on short lease hence my price! :scared: but it does depend if it is in redmond or outside (where rents will drop). You can easily get a good apart. for $900 a month not incl heating etc. My heating, water etc is $150 a month.
http://www.rentnet.com/apartments/home.jhtml
is a good place and will tell you prices etc.
4 bedroom homes to buy you are generally looking at $450,000 and above but the odd ones come on at $400,000. The eastside (redmond and bellevue) costs offically (apparently) 50% more than the median in US for the cost of living. Go to http://www.ziprealty.com/index.jsp for buying homes great site as you use the map to look for homes and loads of photos so you can see what you can get for your money.
I'm obviously living in Redmond but am looking to buy but probably not eastside as a bit expensive. Please pm for any more specific questions - be happy to help.

See? A local wandered in eventually.

Gruff, I'd believe you could get six of anything for $5 at Wal-Mart. But please -- tell me that sometime in your adult life you have bought a pair of socks!
