Rodney, yes you can buy finish plaster in the U.S. Millions of pre-war homes have plaster/lath walls (including mine, built 1925). Just because you can't find something in Home Depot or Lowe's doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Try to find an old-fashioned paint/hardware store in an area with older homes. If they don't have it they can probably order it for you. If you live in an area that is all new construction you might have to travel a bit. Good luck.

Varies by the man, I'm sure.

Besides, it's usually just visiting repairmen or something that I "eeek" at. So who cares what they think then.
